Family Health Insurance – Things To Keep In Mind
A family may apply for a family health insurance policy individually, or a family member may obtain group insurance at the place of employment. Coverage of the entire family might b provided under the group plan. When the head of the family leaves or loses their job, they may be debarred from the employee group insurance policies. Under such circumstances affordable health insurance for the entire family becomes imperative. Many times, employers do not offer a benefits package that includes health insurance for the family of the employee. Moreover, a self-employed person may need to bear the full medical expenses of the entire family if they happen to be the only earning member of the family. Also, the premium that is to be paid when all the family members are covered under a single policy might be lesser than the total amount payable for individual health plans for each and every member of the family.
However, certain maters need to be looked into before settling upon any particular family health insurance plan.
In certain cases, a family might not want to change the physician they are currently consulting, because of their familiarity with the medical history of the family. In that case, the medical provider should be asked about the types of insurance policies they allow, or whether they are enlisted with any particular health insurance company. This will ensure attainment of the best services at the best rates.
Managed care health insurance plans are often quite reasonably priced, but might be limiting in the sense that the policy holders are restricted to acquiring medical help from those providers and hospitals that fall under their network. In that case, one needs to ascertain whether any doctor in their locality falls under that network. Otherwise, that particular policy will not turn out to be cost-effective at all. Hence, it is crucial to carry out comprehensive research before signing up for any health insurance plan.
Coverage under insurance plans varies from one policy to another. In case that your child needs braces or consultation of allergist, you need to ascertain whether your insurance policy covers all that. Also find out if a written referral from your primary medical practitioner would be required.

How do I keep my home?
Can anyone give me some advice? I was recently laid off, and received a 12-week severance. After that, it's unemployment comp and cobra. My wife and I know that after severance is over, things will collapse pretty fast for us, especially since there's little chance of landing a job within 12-weeks (I'm a chief communications officer, and jobs for the likes of me are few and far between, with many qualified candidates). In order to keep my home, I'm wondering if there's a way to put my mortgage (Wells Fargo) into some kind of forbearance until I'm working again, and I'm in the market for a cheaper health insurance option so I don't have to use COBRA ($1400 a month for my family of five). Anybody have any top-of-mind thoughts to help me start investigation my options? I know I'm one of hundreds of thousands dealing with this issue in 2009, so I'm thinking there have to be options out there. Thanks, in advance. Much appreciated.

How about considering a different occupation until the economy gets better? Things are already starting to look up with the economy. If it were me I would do anything necessary to get through this including going to where the jobs were. There are a few states that have very low unemployment how about going there for a couple of years? Wyoming I know is one of them. They have jobs that they can't fill.

Richard, that's a tough spot to be in my friend. The business of communication is far from me while determining your abilities as a chief officer. Some thoughts come to mind as a telephone type communications work opportunity. My friends dad he works for verizon and he makes good money and also works on the side for individuals as a sole proprietor hooking up phone lines or cat 5 equipment lines, stuff like that. I know pretty knowledgeable for a girl huh. Anyway verizon charges some 90 dollars an hour for their services and if you could make just half you might be in business. Word of mouth and local paper advertising is how he got his start.Something else and by the way I'm totally against spamming but the business that I'm working for part time is a legitimate business on the computer. If you might be interested here is a link that proves, for one; that its a real and legitimate business and two; you can succeed and make the living that you really want. And I know right now Richard your in a tight spot and don't want to lose what you've worked hard to achieve. It is real and legitimate and it will work for you if you want it.
Good Luck I wish you and your family the best at whatever you do.

Richard,
First off as far as your COBRA plan goes, are you aware of "Stimulus COBRA" that was passed in the Federal Stimulus package?
You are entitled to this plan due to any type of layoff vs. being fired for misconduct, the "Stimulus COBRA" is: You are reponsible for only 35% of what your 'COBRA' plan WOULD normally be and the government will pick up the other 65% for you for 9 months of your COBRA. Instead of writing out the whole plan etc. I have just added the link. This plan is NOT optional on the part of your employer! You are entitled to it as long as your employer carried 20 or more employees.
Anyhow I know this because I got a couple of employees who wanted the plan and I had to sign them up. They pay my company the 35% a month and I (the company) have to request the credit from the government, which is a pain for me, but that's the way the law was written. With a family of 5 do NOT pass this up, at least for the next 9 months you can continue coverage with your current insurance for $490 a month (based on the $1400 figure you gave).
Second, whatever you do make sure your priorties are straight.
1. Food (Can't live without)
2. Mortgage (Even if you can't make the whole payment pay at least what you can. The bank does not want to foreclose on you and paying something is better than nothing).
3. Electricity (Won't need this if you don't have home)
4. Phone (need to get the calls for interviews)
5. Pay vehicles etc. last. (Unless you can move your family into the car or have it provide heat it is better it than losing #1 or #2).
I hope everything works out for you and your children. Do the best you can with what you got, and just make sure to sit down and go through the priorities of what gets paid first like the example listed above.
I wish I had better advice, but keep your head up!
