Health Insurance Help For Family In NY?
We are having a baby, we live on Long Island, and we are too "rich" for healthy NY and those other plans, but we are too "pooer" and can not afford to pay over $1,000 a month for family health insurance. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do?
One expecting mother I know is in the same situation today.
Even the high deductible insurance was too much for her
to swallow as far as monthly premium. She did the math
and decided to go with the patient advocacy program
included with my simple card for the maternity coverage.

I was in your position last year. My wife was seven months pregnant and we found out that our insurance was cancelled. We could not get another insurance company because they considered the pregnancy a pre-existing condition and we made too much to qualify for Healthy NY. We did a lot of research and found out that we could qualify for emergency medicaid. We contacted our hospital and had to talk to a counselor to get the process started. It covered all medical bills up to and including the delivery as well as the baby for one year after birth. After that the major carriers have plans available that have high yearly deductibles but are less out of pocket monthly. Just a thought.
